A move set to strengthen the highly lauded f&b credentials that Soneva already boasts, the star attraction of this new offering is arguably the eponymous Once Upon a Table. An unusual horseshoe-shaped table seating a mere eight diners, Once Upon a Table has no menu, and will have a chef cooking for guests directly – meaning dinners are always a surprise.

Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru Premieres World Exclusive DeepFlight Adventures

Explore UNESCO waters in DeepFlight’s first 3-person Super Falcon 3S: the pinnacle of personal submarine technology

DeepFlight produces the world’s highest performance personal submarines. On May 3, 2018, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru will become the first place to launch submarine excursions in DeepFlight’s most advanced model yet: the Super Falcon 3S.

DeepFlight’s most advanced model yet: the Super Falcon 3S
DeepFlight’s most advanced model yet: the Super Falcon 3S

In a world exclusive, DeepFlight Adventures take up to two guests on a once-in-a-lifetime sub-aquatic “dive” exploration of the Maldives’ only UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Landaa Giraavaru’s Baa Atoll home.

With a professional pilot at the controls, passengers can skim over coral formations; fly through shoals of brightly coloured fish; encounter creatures such as turtles, sharks, dolphins and rays; and explore the Maldivian waters down to a depth of 120 feet (37 metres) – all without getting wet.

Brought to the Maldives in collaboration with leading watersports operator Ocean Group Pvt. Ltd, the Super Falcon 3S represents the pinnacle of personal submarine technology: an environmentally friendly, battery-operated submersible that offers unparalleled underwater “flying” from the safety, comfort and style of a personal pressurised and air-conditioned cockpit, with individual viewing domes.

Once submerged, the domes virtually disappear, providing a 360-degree view of the underwater world. Additionally, its flight-inspired design allows the Super Falcon 3S to glide effortlessly over reefs and cruise alongside marine mammals such as dolphins.

The Super Falcon 3S has also been designed with the environment in mind: its electric and acoustic emissions have been minimised so as not to disturb marine life, and it never lands on the seabed or reefs. The pilot narrates each dive with a real-time commentary, educating and inspiring guests about the wonders of the underwater ecosystem.

Safety is DeepFlight’s number one priority. Certified by Lloyds Register, a leading marine classification society, the Super Falcon 3S features fixed positive buoyancy and a patented thrust and lift system that enables it to not only “fly” underwater, but to automatically float back to the surface in the unlikely event of power loss. A surface team tracks and monitors the submarine during each dive, staying in communication with the pilot via an underwater communications system.

Commenting on the launch, Four Seasons Regional Vice President Armando Kraenzlin said, “At Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru, we have long been aligned with DeepFlight’s mission to bring awareness to the oceans. These submarine excursions redefine marine exploration and bridge the gap between the world we see above the waves and the one that exists below. We couldn’t be prouder to be the first resort in the world to launch the DeepFlight Super Falcon 3S.”

Sirru Fen Fushi, which means ‘secret water island’ in the local Dhivehi language, is set on an exceptionally lush island bursting with flora and fauna. The picturesque locale is also surrounded by powder white sand beaches, peppered with thatched-roofed villas overlooking an endless turquoise sea. The all-villa resort is ideal for couples or families and features 200 metres of infinity pools as well as luxury safari-style tented villas nestled in the island’s lush interior jungle.

Fairmont Sirru Fen FushiHomage to the abundant sea life and pristine coral house reef surrounding this world-class resort, Maldives’ first coral regeneration project in the form of an Underwater Art Installation is created by celebrated underwater naturalist and artist Jason deCaires Taylor. Its May 2018 launch is highly anticipated by international media and guests alike.

Fairmont Sirru Fen FushiFairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi is the sole hotel on the pristine atoll, and its previously untouched location has allowed marine life to flourish, with manta rays, turtles, large pods of bottlenose dolphins and spinner dolphins regular visitors in the crystal-clear waters of the 600-hectare lagoon. The nine-kilometre-long house reef, directly accessible from the beach, is home to vibrant corals and a thriving ecosystem teeming with life. Uniquely, a manta ray cleaning station at the house reef offers guests a rare close and extended glimpse of one of the world’s most majestic marine creatures, many of which drop by in a beautiful display of aquatic symbiosis with smaller sea life.

Fairmont Sirru Fen FushiThe 112 villas are categorised based on the island’s stunning topography and include Beach Villas, Water Villas, and Tented Jungle Villas. Copper bathroom fittings and carved wood detailing on furniture lend the villas a bohemian rustic chic vibe. Specially adapted to the Maldives, the unique tented jungle villas offer privacy and a romantic castaway vibe; other guests can also experience the verdant island interiors with glamping BBQs or jungle cinema.
A strong connection to nature guides guests throughout their stay, even at the resort’s contemporary dining outlets. Fairmont Sirru Fen FushiAdjacent to the main all-day dining restaurant, the intimate Raha Market Bar is a relaxed space for aperitifs or digestifs to round off a meal at the water’s edge. At the all-bamboo Onu Onu, loungers and fire pits add to the laid-back poolside atmosphere, while sunsets are best enjoyed with a sundowner at the Kata Roof Top Bar and lounge which overlooks the entire western side of the island. Destination dining experiences draw guests further into nature with private meals enjoyed under the stars and powder-soft sand beneath the toes.

ABOUT KURUMBA MALDIVES

Kurumba was the very first private island resort in the Maldives when it opened its doors in 1972 in the Indian Ocean archipelago of the Maldives, celebrates its 45th Anniversary this year.

Opened by four young Maldivians on an uninhabited coconut plantation island in October 1972, Kurumba marked the beginning of the tourist industry in the country. At that time, the Maldives was isolated with no contact with the outside world except by ham radio, no telephones, mains electricity or water, few vehicles and no paved roads, and only a small airstrip built by volunteers.

Kurumba began with 30 huts built of coral and thatched with coconut leaves; the first guests were barefoot backpackers in search of sand, sea and sun. The Maldivian hosts prepared meals informally. Today the resort is still Maldivian owned and managed.

About 1,000 tourists visited the island in 1972; in 2016 1.4 million tourists stayed in over 117 resorts through the Maldives.

Kurumba Maldives is set on a tropical island in the North Male’ Atoll, conveniently situated a brief 10-minute speedboat ride from the airport.

Kurumba draws on its proud history, charismatic personality and heartfelt service, to offer compelling and diverse experiences amidst a stunning island setting.

Our Maldives resort offers an array of eight styles of accommodation, ranging from comfortable Superior rooms to the spacious Royal Residence, spread among the island’s lush tropical gardens with easy access to the beach. With eight different restaurants and four bars to choose from.

Kurumba Maldives will charm you with its unparallel choice of dining experience and a wide range of recreation activities and entertainment. All while maintaining idyllic spaces of relaxation to create the perfect balance for a holiday in paradise, perfect for honeymooners and family alike.
