Review — Hotel Jen officially opened Jen’s Kitchen On-The-Go On Thursday with live music, mascots, dancing waiters and free tastings.
Jen’s Kitchen caters to those wanting a quick break for lunch or morning and afternoon tea, on the premise or as a take away. The hotel is in a prime position in Malé amidst government and other offices buildings.
Since its soft opening during the holy month of Ramazan, Jen’s Kitchen On-the-Go has also proven popular as a the go-to place for take-away and pre-ordered assortments of cakes or savory treats for office parties, staff meetings or tea breaks.
Hotel Jen’s General Manager Vathsala Subramaniam says the idea is to offer hotel food to everyone at affordable, all-inclusive café prices.
Jen’s Kitchen serves premium brands such as the Dilmah t-Series teas and Illy coffee. Ms Vathsala Subramaniam says the coffee brand was chosen following a blind tasting done earlier in the year with the general public.
The food is prepared freshly every day and sandwiches are prepared on the spot. The baked yoghurt cake is very popular, as are the ice creams and the JFC chicken wings, says James Francis, Executive Chef at Hotel Jen. “JFC, as in Jen Fried Chicken,” he says. Got it. Nice one!
Jen’s Kitchen On-the-Go, formerly the hotel’s chic lobby café Panini, is his brainchild. The Malaysian-born chef arrived in Malé just in time for the rebranding of the former Traders Hotel to Hotel Jen Malé Maldives in January of this year.
New offerings will be added to the menu on a regular basis, he says. That’s something to look forward to. We will certainly be back!
