Hotel Jen celebrates Down syndrome awareness month

Hotel Jen donated MVR35, 000 to beautiful eyes Down syndrome association of the Maldives on the recent visit to Down syndrome association. The donation was derived from the fund raising sticker selling event which was held during the month of October from 25-27 to mark the Down syndrome Awareness themed “Buddy friend with a kid of disability”.

The “Buddy friend with a kid of disability” sticker campaign was a fun filled competition where three teams from Hotel Jen initiated the selling of Down syndrome sticker on three consecutive days; our teams were energetic and working on the clock since they got two and half hours to complete the daily task of selling 100 stickers per team. The challenge was taken up enthusiastically with excitement and eagerness where every team tried their level best to outdo the other by raising the maximum fund as much as they could; the highly motivated staffs of Hotel Jen took the whole fund raising event to a different level by infusing an element of exuberance thus making it a fun filled competition.

At the hand-over ceremony which was held in Down syndrome association, beautiful eyes of the Maldives, Founder of the association Mr. Ahmed Ansam briefed about their roles followed by a tour within the facility of the association where we got to see the real heroes behind the association, the Down syndrome teachers who are young, energetic and passionate individuals within the age of 20-26 years which consist of a team of four local ladies that are currently working in the association, e.t, Ms. Mariyam Leena, Ms. Nafahath Nasir, Ms Shamsunisaa whom are preschool certified and trained teachers of Down syndrome association of Sri Lanka including a Sri Lankan speech therapist Ms. Kurshidha Azeez Beigum.

“The teacher’s contribution to the kids was a heart whelming moment which my staffs got to experience when they visited the association, being very professional at their work and at the same time very passionate towards the kids” says Hotel Jen General Manager Ms. Vathsala Subramaniam.

“Staffs of Hotel Jen are passionate about societal concerns and Down syndrome being one of the associations where we have continued to help for the past year makes me proud” added Ms. Vathsala Subramaniam. “Hotel Jen assures that we will continue to support by helping Beautiful eyes Down syndrome association in future as well as participating in its activities.”

Ahmed Ansam, added that Hotel Jen has been very supportive to the Association in every way and that during the month of October which coincide with International Teachers day celebration, a complimentary dinner was extended by Hotel Jen to all the staffs and teachers who are working in the Down syndrome association, held at Hotel Jen’s Lime restaurant and further stated that the down syndrome association of Maldives is very much motivated to continue with their activities due to the support of Hotel Jen.

All in all, it was a joyous evening with the teachers and kids at the Down syndrome association that we treated to pastries and drinks to conclude the celebration.

A word of inspiration to ponder “Not everyone gets a chance to raise a child with special needs God gave the blessing to only a few lucky people”.
