Kurumba Maldives celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2016 with a number of planned activities, for guests and employees. The purpose of International Women’s Day is to celebrate women’s achievements and to continue the journey to greater equality.
The day started with a Yoga session, followed by a healthy breakfast in the VIP Lounge meeting room. 2 guest speakers were invited to this gathering: Miss Hiyam Afeef, the first female seaplane pilot in the Maldives, and Dr. Athifa Saeed. Miss Hiyam talked about her professional journey and Dr. Athifa presented an informative session about women’s health.
The highlight of the breakfast was an auction for charity, where eleven “Personal Butlers” (members of staff at Kurumba) were auctioned in exchange for a day with the lucky winners, raising a total of US$1400 for the charity ARC – Advocating Rights for Children.
Other activities that followed were: Acupressure, a Fitness Class, Power Yoga, Stand up paddle board class, watersports and diving trials, as well as a group meditative session. On average, around 20 ladies took part in each activity.
Ms. Aishath Zulfishan, Veli Spa Manager at Kurumba Maldives commented: “In Kurumba Maldives, we feel that each year our International Women’s Day celebration becomes stronger and stronger, with more women engaged and more efforts placed into the event. We have evolved from a single experience in previous years to multiple activities, throughout the day for all women to enjoy. We are very proud to be able to motivate our female talent through a milestone celebration such as this”.
