AVANI to debut in the Maldives with development of AVANI Fares Resort

AVANI Hotels & Resorts is thrilled to announce the development of its first resort in the Maldives. AVANI Fares Maldives Resort will be located on Fares Island in the Baa Atoll and is scheduled to open in Q4 2019. Ideal for millennial minded travellers, this untouched, private 12.4-hectare island will provide a natural playground surrounded by a soft white sandy beach and every colour of blue imaginable.

This USD 70-million resort development is a joint venture partnership between Minor Hotels and Cyprea Group. Cyprea Group’s diversified Sri Lanka and Maldives business portfolio includes ownership and operation of Club Med Kani Maldives Resort located in North Malé Atoll.

Alejandro Bernabe, Group Director AVANI Hotels & Resorts said: “The AVANI design philosophy is interestingly relaxed and contemporary and in tune with the environment of this development, using natural textures, colours and materials that reflect the location whilst incorporating advanced technology and modern conveniences.”

The new upscale AVANI Fares Maldives Resort will comprise 200 guest rooms, including standard rooms and a selection of villas. Every attention will be given to well being. The décor will be a blend of comfort and modernity, soothing materials, textures and high-tech equipment such as complimentary WiFi, media hub docking station and 40-inch flat screen TV.

On arrival, guests will immediately be welcomed by an arresting view of the Indian Ocean from the open plan lobby. This communal living space will blend reception, lounge, meeting space, all day restaurant and The Pantry, an AVANI hallmark, will serve a mix of comfort food and artisanal deli snacks around the clock.

The resort will also feature a speciality restaurant, AVANISPA, AVANI Kids Club and a large communal swimming pool and pool bar. The nearby Ahivahfushi Beyru dive site offers amazing reef diving with a plethora of sea life including Hawksbill Turtles, Reef Sharks and Manta Rays. It’s an underwater Eden for snorkellers and scuba enthusiasts.

The resort’s secluded northern location is easily accessible and is 45 minutes by seaplane from Male and 30 minutes by speedboat from the newly opened domestic airport on Baa Atoll.

“The Maldives is the ultimate beach destination in the world and we are excited to deliver an alternative hospitality offering in the region. AVANI is a true lifestyle brand. Imaginatively blending genuine hospitality and modernity with savvy design and contemporary style. The AVANI experience is designed to satisfy important guests’ needs,” said Bernabe.

AVANI Hotels & Resorts was launched in 2011 as a sister brand to Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, which currently has three resorts in the Maldives, including Anantara Kihavah which is also located in the Baa Atoll. Offering all the details that matter, AVANI blends genuine hospitality and modern lifestyle features with a passion for design. The brand already has a presence in the Indian Ocean with two resorts in Sri Lanka and one in the Seychelles.

Niyama private islands Maldives brings surfing to the shore

Anantara’s sister property in the Maldives, NIYAMA Private Islands is taking luxury surfing to the next tubular level

Most of the surf spots in the Maldives remain an undiscovered secret, or those in the know keep it so, but at NIYAMA Private Islands Maldives the secret is right in front of you at the only luxury resort sporting surf-able waves that break directly onto the island.

Off the beaten track with uncrowded waves and high-quality breaks, NIYAMA Private Islands introduces a series of surf options and tailored services that invite professional and novice surfers alike to revel in their own version of luxury by enjoying adrenaline-charged activities right on their doorstep.  Here the waves are relatively mellow and playful, but challenging at times and suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers, with some spots perfect for beginner coaching.  Surfers can expect a consistent set of around five average surf-able waves rolling out every five minutes, and no crowds.

Aptly known as Nature’s Playground, NIYAMA Private Islands offers adjoining twin islands, Chill and Play. Just off the edge of Play Island’s Surf Corner is Vodi surf point – a classic, powerful left-hand ride that breaks onto the shore.  Off to the West and just five minutes away by speedboat is Kasabu surf point at Kudahuvadhoo Corner – a superb right-hander with barrelling sections. Head East for ten minutes to Hocus Pocus at Maeenboodhoo Corner for another barrelling right-hander.

134 studios, suites, and pavilions dot both islands or extend out over the azure lagoon.  Right on the beach at Surf Corner, surfers can chill out in customised Surf Beach Studios, Surf Beach Studios with a pool, or a Surf Family Beach Suite with a pool, ranging from 135 to 255 square metres.  The studios and suites are fitted with a surfboard rack and stocked with surf amenities and necessities, including bicycles with a surfboard rack and dedicated television channels displaying up-to-the-minute surf reports and a live feed of the nearby Vodi surf point.  Each room is equipped with a king bed and Deli-In with full-size refrigerator overflowing with gourmet treats, as well as Thakuru (butler) service.

As the sun sets over the ocean swells, head off to the Surf Shack at Vodi surf point with the dudes to recall the day’s kick outs, bottom turns and barrels.  Here surfers can drink classic Rum cocktails from the Caribbean Islands and Jamaican comfort food to the laidback island rhythms of reggae music.

FLOAT, NIYAMA Private Islands’ water sports operator, offers an array of tailormade surf programmes and services developed in association with LUEX.com, one of the world’s leading luxury surf tour operators, to suit every surfer.  From beginner coaching courses to various surf pass options that offer on-demand boat transfers to surf points located away from the resort, the professional Surf Dude is on hand to coax first timers or use video analysis to help intermediate surfers get to the next level.

Always daring to be different, NIYAMA Private Islands offers the ultimate luxury surf experience – a private seaplane at surfers’ disposal to discover and surf secret spots.  The seaplane allows surfers to jump in directly behind the waves anywhere on the ocean, and swim back to the plane for the scenic short journey back to the resort.

Hosts and guests at Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort join World Oceans Day activities

Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort today held “Our Ocean, Our Future,” marine awareness events to honour World Oceans Day 8 June. The events were an extension of Outrigger’s global OZONE (Outrigger’s Zone) marine conservation program, with all nine Outrigger Resorts participating around the world.

In the Maldives, Outrigger staff and guests conducted a beach and lagoon reef clean up to remove marine debris from the reef. Later in the afternoon there was a coral restoration program. After a briefing, guests helped the Best Dives Konotta staff attach fragments of coral to a metal frame which will be placed underwater to encourage new coral growth.

In the evening, guests and staff gathered around the pool and watched a documentary called “Planet Ocean” by Yann Arthus-Bertrand.

In the Outrigger Kids Club, youngsters participated in World Oceans Day by painting pictures with the theme, “My Ocean”. There were ocean face painting sessions, creating sand sculptures and a viewing of the Walt Disney movie “Moana”.

The lagoon clean up and the key activities of World Oceans Day were led by Best Dives Maldives.

This June, throughout World Oceans Month, Outrigger Resorts properties worldwide are offering a diverse range of immersive activities and conservation opportunities for Outrigger guests to get in the OZONE mind-set and make a difference, even while on vacation.

Some 60% of the world’s coral reefs are being denuded by climate change, land-based pollution and unsustainable fishing. Outrigger’s OZONE conservation program encourages guests to become part of the solution by participating in marine conservation activities while on vacation.

Hurawalhi hosts Martin Stelfox’s Olive Ridley Project

Hurawalhi Maldives hosted Martin Stelfox, founder and CEO of the Olive Ridley Project, for a 4-day visit, during which the resort’s guests and team members received a lot of interesting information about sea turtles and about threats these magnificent animals are exposed to.

Martin joined our guests on two Turtle Tour snorkelling excursions; combined, we visited three different snorkel sites that are known to have resident populations of sea turtles – Kuredu Caves (a.k.a. Turtle Airport), Kuredu Lagoon and Komandoo House Reef – which allowed our guests to not only see these sleepyheads up close and personal, but also to get plenty of fascinating insights from Martin and Lisa, the resort’s resident marine biologist.

The Turtle Tours were charity events and it was with great pleasure to be able to make a generous donation to the Olive Ridley Project that will surely be beneficial to the organisation’s conservations and protection projects across the Indian Ocean.

To show our guest what lurks deeper down beneath the ocean surface, Martin happily accepted Prodivers’ invitation to dive at two of Lhaviyani Atoll’s famous dive sites, Kuredu Express and Kuredu Caves; in total, the divers spotted a whopping 16 green sea turtles! At Caves, the group even met two familiar turtles, Clio and Sapphire.

On Tuesday evening, at the weekly Prodivers’ Divers Night in Coco Bar, Martin gave a talk on sea turtle biology and the mission of the Olive Ridley Project.

To wrap up the visit, Martin joined the excursion to the Turtle Sanctuary at Naifaru to visit the 4 Olive ridley sea turtles that had to be transferred to Naifaru for rehabilitation after being rescued by Hurawalhi and Prodivers. Zoe Cox, the marine biologist of the sea turtle rehabilitation centre, was a great host.

On behalf of everyone at Hurawalhi, including guests who clearly appreciated the knowledge and passion he shared with us, we would like to thank Martin Stelfox for visiting the resort – we look forward to many more common turtle-related projects in the future!

Last but certainly not least, a big ‘well done’ to Paige, Lisa and Martin for having removed a ghost net from the nearby Latheef dive site and thereby prevented the reef from being further damaged and marine life being entrapped.
