On 25-27th August, Reebok Women invited 12 ladies from Southeast Asia and the Pacific to W Maldives as the faces and voices of their #PerfectNever campaign in the region, with the aim of flipping the conventional notion of perfection. These are influencers with a huge following on Social Media (approx. 7.7 million collectively) and admired for their flawless lifestyles. With the #PerfectNever campaign set in the perfect environment, the aim of the happening was to show that there are more to these women than the airbrushed images on their Social Media accounts – the grit and the determination that makes them human and ‘perfect’ in their own way.
During the 3-day event, these women shared their life journey during both individual and sharing interview sessions. At the forefront of their minds were topics on comparing oneself to others, body shaming, bullying, personal insecurities and society’s definition of ‘beautiful’. Boundaries were also pushed with a 7:00 AM sunrise yoga session and a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout at sunset led by Reebok’s Ambassador Liv Lo. A combat workout was also conducted by W Maldives’ own fitness instructor Mark Angeles. The digital campaign is scheduled for launch on October 1, 2017.
During the event, Social Media content contributed to #PerfectNever garnered a reach of 8,910,066 and 35,911,486 in impressions.
The actual #PerfectNever campaign will launch with a full video that summarizes the #PerfectNever experience at W Maldives and a voiceover that encapsulates the campaign message. The influencers will be sharing their #PerfectNever story through 60 seconds’ videos of their individual journeys; pictures of their perfect self and ‘tough fitness’ pictures of them geared in Reebok attire.
An online contest is also organized for residents of Southeast Asia and the Pacific, in which they may enter by sharing their #PerfectNever stories online. The Grand Prize is an all-expense paid 3-night stay at W Maldives for two, sponsored by both brands.

Preferring showcasing his paintings rather than himself, Tom Bacher will use the iconic W Maldives as his own workshop and art gallery, showcasing his luminous art and holding art classes for inhouse guests and W talents alike. Getting his inspiration from the New York City’s vibrant 24/7 skyline and the Indian Ocean’s colorful marine life, twinkling stars and phosphorescent plankton, the luminous artist will transform the tropical playground into a magical island set to ‘Let It Glow’ with sparkling neon colors.
Artists are supposed to love light, but Tom actually works with crystals of phosphorescence that he mixes with acrylic paints. The amalgam that results has a half-life. The paints on the canvas absorb light during the day; as light fails, the colors change, and when darkness invades the studio or gallery, the pictures start glowing, popping off the wall.
“I do paintings that actually incorporate an element of time and change,” Bacher describes his creative process. He recalls that his fascination with phosphorescence stems from the glow-in-the dark toys, religious statues, and rosaries so popular in the USA in the 1950s.
“I consider paintings that glow and emit their own light as new, just as Impressionism was new at one time,” says Tom Bacher. “I look at Impressionism as the art movement that captured the sun and daylight effects, while today, with luminous colors, it’s possible to capture the night effects because we’re looking at the paintings in the dark. I’ve been using luminous pigments exclusively for 38 years, and I’m still discovering new things.”
Tom Bacher’s work appears in numerous museums, corporate and private collections in the USA and has been exhibited in Paris, Zurich, and Brussels. The artist has also showcased his paintings in West of Soho Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio and New York’s OK Harris Gallery with world famous art dealer Ivan Karp for 20 years. Bacher is currently represented by Cincinnati Art Galleries, Ohio and 100 Titres Gallery in Brussels, Belgium.

A native of Austria is responsible for the overall operation, providing strategic and inspirational leadership to his new team and delivering distinguished W experience to the hotel guests and clients. Among other responsibilities, Anton will oversee implementation of the annual business plan annual operational and capital budgets, marketing and guest satisfaction.
Anton was promoted to the top position after previously serving eight years as Executive Assistant Manager at Le Méridien Vienna, where he started his hospitality career as a Director of Human Resources. Prior to joining the Starwood team, Anton worked for such big brands as T-Mobile, DO & CO or SPAR in Austria.
During his time with Le Méridien Vienna, Anton supervised the development of the Food & Beverage department and functioned as a key hotel contact for such major events as the Life Ball, Fashion Check-in, Vienna Fashion Week, Afterhours, Vienna Art Fair or Vogue Fashion’s Night Out. He also focused on the networking events in the B2B sector as well as building the relationship with hotel’s key suppliers and partners.
